The second game of the Spartans home stand was on Friday night against Loyola Marymount University. Since the Spartans won the first meeting of the season in southern California 6-3, everyone expected LMU to come out looking for redemption. Unfortunately for Loyola, this just wasn’t their night.
The Spartans started off their scoring quick and halfway through the first period found themselves leading 2-0. Loyola managed to squeek one in before the period ended sending them to the dressing room down by one. To start the second period LMU came out the gates strong and knotted the score up at two goals apiece. Their momentum was short lived though, as SJSU managed to score two goals before the end of the period and went to the dressing room up 4-2.
The third period was all San Jose. Defenseman Brandon Hirschel scored a pair of goals to open up the period. Another goal was added later in the period by team president Corey Semmelmayer to give the Spartans a 7-2 lead. The game would end like this with the Spartans skating away with an easy victory.
